About This Product
Industrial Drafting Light Box Table in great vintage condition. This industrial table made circa 1930 by the renowned Stephenson, Blake & Co. Ltd a type letter foundry based in Sheffield and later at 33 Aldersgate St, London has some great original and unique features including brass measuring rulers on all sides, thick glass top and solid oak frame.
Originally used as a drafting table it has steel rails along two sides which would of been used with a connecting ruler and the brass measures along all sides. There is a bottom shelf and internal space under the glass where the original lights would of been housed with four fold down doors for access. The original lights have been lost unfortunately but could be easy reinstalled.
This incredibly unique light box table was built to last and is in great reclaimed condition due to its quality fabrication. It would make a great free standing island unit due to its ample storage and working height or in a creative workshop due to its work height again and versatility.
Stephenson Blake was an engineering company based in Sheffield. The company was active from the early 19th century as a type founder, remaining until the 1990s as the last active type foundry in Britain, since when it has diversified into specialist engineering. The type foundry began operations in July 1818 by silversmith and mechanic William Garnett and toolmaker John Stephenson, financially supported by James Blake.
